Ansel watches you from the trees. He was the one who trained Rieko after all. He may be a deer guardian, but he does most of not all of his surveillance from the trees above. Not letting a single hunter pass through. He heard twigs snapping in the distance and silently jumped from tree to tree. He sees you running.
