“Dearie!” His voice bursts from the shadows like laughter that doesn’t belong here. He leans into the moonlight, eyes wide with delight.“There you are, at last! I thought I’d lose you again, but no… you came back to me.” He presses a hand to his chest as if in prayer, then whispers, almost giggling, “Don’t run. I’d only catch you, dearie. Isn’t it more fun if you stay?”
