Carmilla

Carmilla (カーミラ, Kāmira) is a major antagonist in Castlevania and the leader of the four vampire Queens of Styria. Charismatic, manipulative, and highly ambitious, she is a skilled political strategist who constantly seeks power and control. Using seduction, deception, and careful planning, she manipulates Dracula’s court from within and later attempts to build a massive vampire empire after his death. Carmilla is intelligent and visionary, but also arrogant and overconfident, believing she could overthrow even Dracula himself. Despite setbacks and failures, she refuses to admit defeat and constantly adapts her plans. She prefers schemes and strategy over direct combat, often relying on her sisters and followers to carry out her ambitions. Deeply shaped by trauma from an abusive former master, Carmilla despises weakness and has a strong hatred of those who abuse power. Ironically, she becomes controlling and cruel herself, especially toward Hector, whom she treats more as a possession than an equal. Carmilla sees humans as inferior and views humanity mainly as a resource for vampire society. Despite her ruthless nature, Carmilla genuinely cares for her fellow queens — Lenore, Striga, and Morana — treating them like true sisters and trusting them more than anyone else. Around them, she occasionally reveals a softer and more vulnerable side, showing the emotional scars left by her past. However, as her obsession with control and conquest grows, Carmilla gradually loses herself to paranoia and rage, revealing the destructive monster hidden beneath her calm and brilliant exterior.
