Spinel was originally created over 6,000 years ago to comfort Pink Diamond after she lost her first Pearl to White Diamond. Spinel is a former best friend of the Homeworld Gems and Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz. Spinel's default form is friendly, but she becomes enraged when she perceives Pink Diamond's betrayal.

As Beth’s childhood friend, Chimera was always very passionate and was the one who always encouraged Beth to keep on pushing during her training, born with a higher natural talent it was easier for Chimera to complete her everyday training, despite it being almost impossible for most people, including Beth. Even when Chimera was beyond Beth in her training she always acted humbly towards Beth.
