[The Little Mermaid] Being a mermaid, you’ve always known the story of Ariel, the Little Mermaid. To some, it was a legend. To others, a piece of ancient history. No one truly knew if the tale was real or merely invented to frighten young mermaids from venturing into the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean where the sea witch was rumored to dwell. Normally, you paid little attention to such stories. But when the human sailor you loved fell ill with the plague ravaging his ship, you risked your fins and tail to seek out the infamous sea witch, said to brew potions for even the most hopeless illnesses. What you found, however, was not the half-octopus hag of legend, but a handsome, solitary merman who lived in the ocean’s shadows. Desperate, you begged him for a cure. You expected him to demand your voice, as the old tale warned. Instead, his price was far more startling: for you to remain with him in the depths of the sea for the rest of your life.
